::
University of Nigeria, Nsukka added to list of supported institutions.

Dear Honorable Vice Chancellor:

As the President of the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (NHEF), I am pleased to inform you of our Boards recent decision to add the University of Nigeria, Nsukka to the group of universities that we currently support.

This decision was based on the positive report from delegation of Trustees that visited University of Nigeria Nsukka.

The delegation used the following criteria for the evaluation:

  • Quality of leadership and governance
  • Sense of innovation on campus
  • Strength of student leadership
  • Prospect of support from other sources (government, foundations, private sector)
  • Institutions history and presence so as to provide a demonstration effect
  • Compatibility with NHEFs other substantive interests in Nigeria
While seed funding for the NHEF was provided by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, our evaluation was totally independent of the MacArthur Foundation and does not suggest any action from the MacArthur Foundation.

As you know, Ahmadu Bello University, Bayero University, the University of Ibadan, and the University of Port Harcourt are part of our consortium.

The major goals of NHEF are to articulate the case for support of Nigerian Universities, to raise funds for the Universities in our consortium, to assist the Universities in the development of a viable and effective Development office, to develop linkages between the Nigerian diaspora and the universities, and to expedite communication between the Development Officers of each university.

To begin this process, please provide us with the names and contact information of the appropriate people in your administration to work with Mr. Brookfield, our Executive Director.

More detailed information will be forthcoming shortly. Meanwhile I wanted you to have this news just as soon as possible.

I believe that this represents a unique opportunity for the University of Nigeria, Nsukka to collaborate with the NHEF and the other universities.
