NHEF announces that the $500,000 University of Ibadan's Fanton Challenge is completed.

In February 2005, Jonathan Fanton, President, The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced a $250,000 challenge grant to the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria.

The first of its kind for the University of Ibadan, the MacArthur Foundation and the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation challenged all University of Ibadan alumni to raise $250,000 which the MacArthur Foundation will match dollar for dollar.

The deadline for the completion of this Challenge is December 31, 2008.

The Challenge has been completed six months ahead of schedule.

NHEF President C. Sola Olopade stated that the tireless efforts of Dr. Abiodun O. K. Johnson, member of NHEF Board of Directors and former Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, now Professor of Pediatrics, Texas Tech University, and Professor O.A. Bamiro, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, and the University of Ibadan's Development office were instrumental in the early completion of the Challenge.

These funds will serve to develop needed educational resources at the University of Ibadan.
