Message from the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation
We are deeply saddened by the recent tragedies that have taken place in our communities in Nigeria and the United States.
As an organization founded in the United States, we stand in solidarity with Black advocates and activists and reject systemic racism that permeates our society today. It is our shared responsibility to challenge racial inequality and lend our voices to be a part of the solution.
Nigeria is home to our student community and network of partners and volunteers. While our programs have focused on creating educational opportunity for the youth, we have done so while challenging gender stereotypes and creating safe spaces for young women to realize their ambition. We do so with the conviction that a nation that does not empower or protect half of its citizenry will never actualize its potential. Therefore, we stand against gender-based violence and injustice in all forms.
We will continue to support organizations that fight for justice and equality and implore our friends to do the same. Here at the NHEF, we will continue to strive for collective change. We remember the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world”. We reaffirm our commitment to this credo and will continue to work towards creating opportunity and reform.
With love and in solidarity,
The Nigeria Higher Education Foundation
