NHEF Scholars Spotlight – Uche Osita
Name: Uche Osita (NHEF Scholar ’17)
Attends: University of Nigeria, Nsukka
Industry Track: Law
Destination: Ikeyi and Arifayan LP
Ever since the NHEF Scholars Program 2017, my life has been transformed. To be honest I was not sure I would be selected because I was in final year and the NHEF website expressly forbade people above the penultimate level from participating, I applied all the same and hoped that NHEF would make an exception. And to my utmost surprise they did.
NHEF gave me my first flight experience. Ever since It has been too good to be true. After a series of seminars in Alfred Rewane and sumptuous meal after meal at Best Western Hotel, there seemed to nothing more I could hope for. But no, NHEF was not done with us, they went ahead and organized a closing dinner at Wheat Baker Hotel and even invited the Minister of Finance.
My experience is a bit unique. I got my own internship placement at the closing dinner, before all the other Scholars, all because Faridah Usman introduced me to one of the partners of their partner firms.
I have met a lot of people, from various universities and developed a working professional relationship with a lot of them all thanks to the Scholars Program.
After the orientation event at Lagos. NHEF still followed up on all of us, scheduled our different internship periods according to our respective circumstances.
I have concluded the internship program that the scholars program helped me secure. I have been able to put into practice the professional ethics I was taught during the Scholars Program orientation. I have also seen the difficulties inherent in reality as opposed to theories that we were taught.
A forum has as well been set up by NHEF that enables all the scholars to interact with one another and the NHEF representative as well.
I have personally gained so much professional experience as a result of the Scholars Program. I was also mentioned in our university’s website as one of the student achievers of the month all thanks to NHEF.
Because of the Scholars Program, I have learnt to be patient with people. I have learnt, in the course of my internship, that everyone does not value competence over attitude. And most of all, that I can be so much more than I already am.
Thank you so much NHEF for the Scholars Program.
I am proud to be part of the Scholars Class of 2017.
